Hedstrom Landscape Architecture is an award-winning, boutique design firm based in Knoxville, Tennessee. We work with clients seeking to invest in thoughtful landscape architectural services of the highest quality. We are committed to providing planning and design that focuses on detail and craft.
Our process is a collaborative one that embraces hand drawing, a love of plants and attention to fine detail.
Our founding principal’s home embodies the firms love of art, craftsmanship, sustainability, playfulness, and simple beauty.
Our team consists of talented artists, dancers, musicians, and gardeners who elevate design by drawing on their varied experiences. We are active and visible in the community and guided by the principles of being kind, responsive and engaged with our clients and others.

- SARA PINNELL, PLA, ASLA Founding Principal
- Sara, our founder, president, and principal landscape architect, has been recognized with numerous design and business awards throughout her career. She previously practiced in Philadelphia and Boston before settling in Knoxville. She is adept at reading landscapes and developing creative design solutions that enhance site ecology and human experience. Sara is an avid beekeeper and gardener and enjoys testing plants in her home gardens and green roofs.
- ANDREW SPATZ, PLA, ASLA Principal, Partner
- Andrew is vice president and principal landscape architect. His work is guided by the belief that we all have an innate need to connect with nature. This has led him to design meaningful outdoor spaces in both public and private landscapes, bringing nature into the everyday lives of our clients. He has led award-winning residential and commercial projects and is passionate about finding ways to add intentional outdoor experiences to projects of any style and scale. He finds inspiration hiking with his family, fly fishing, working in his own landscape, and through music. He a masters degree in landscape architecture from the University of Georgia.
- PAMELLA SELBY, PLA, ASLA Landscape Architect, Creative Director
- Pamella is from Upstate New York and joined Hedstrom in 2017 after receiving a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry. She enjoys working on a diverse range of projects with a particular interest in historic landscapes. Currently, she serves as President of the Tennessee chapter of ASLA, and while not in the office, can be found reading in local parks and exploring new landscapes in her travels.
- LUCAS GOODROW, ASLA Project Manager
- Lucas, originally from Pennsylvania, is a graduate of West Virginia University and joined the Hedstrom team in the fall of 2016. Lucas enjoys spending time in nature, hunting, fishing, hiking, and gardening. He uses his experiences in nature and native plant knowledge to design spaces that reflect the wonderful woodlands and environments of East Tennessee.
- ANNA McGOVERN, PLA, ASLA Landscape Architect
- Anna attended the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry where she completed her Bachelors of Landscape Architecture. She enjoys the learning opportunities that come with each project and the collaborative nature of the design process to create solutions and improved spaces.
